How Oppression Hurts the Oppressor

Posted on January 4, 2009. Filed under: Uncategorized |

This is a full essay I wrote for my Ethics of Diversity course. It addresses the philosophical underpinnings of how systems of oppression actually harm those who oppress others. I feel like it is important for student affairs professionals to understand that privilege comes with a price and that the price is often not worth the apparent rewards associated with privilege. Understanding this can make it easier to have discussions with students and other community members about both privilege and oppression.
